Once you have sucessfully completed your Kilimanjaro challenge you may want to see a little of Tanzania before you go home, or maybe even flop on a beach for a few days to recover!
There are a variety of options available to you:
Tribes can tailor makes any itinerary for you. If you know there is something specific you'd like to do or see, or if you'd like to stay longer than the standard extensions we're offering, simply talk to us and we'll plan what you'd like. We'd recommend that you have a look at our Tanzania web pages first to get an idea of some of the many options open to you, but of course we're also very happy to chat through the options with you too.
We are offering two safari extensions. The itinerary is the same for both but the accommodation is different. If you want to keep the price down, camping is the best option. However if you think you might have had enough of camping after Kili, perhaps you deserve a bit more comfort and should opt for staying in lodges?
The safari we have planned gives you a good chance of seeing the gorgeous landscape, seeing the incredible wildlife and also meeting some wonderful people, all in a relatively short timeframe.
We start by driving from Moshi to Tarangire National Park on the day after you arrive back off your Kili climb (day 10 of the trip). We'll have a picnic lunch and enjoy game drives in the park. There are nine vegetation zones here ranging from acacia parkland and riverine grassland to deep gully vegetation and rocky hilltops. Between them they support large numbers of wildlife including large herds of zebra, impala, wildebeest as well as buffalo, giraffe, warthog, eland, big cats (especially cheetah) and many birds (over 300 species). The park is especially good in our summer months.
The next day we have much of the day to enjoy wildlife viewing in the park before heading towards the Ngorongoro Crater region by late afternoon. Relaxing evening by the campfire or at your lodge.
On the next morning (day 12) we have a very special visit arranged to one of the projects which The Tribes Foundation backs. It is called the Rift Valley Children's Village. It is a wonderful place which is home to 70 orphans. They are cared for and educated here, and the village founder, India Knight as kindly agreed that we may visit the village for a short time this morning. You won't forget this short visit!
Afterwards we will head into the Ngorongoro Crater for an afternoon's game drive.
The focus of the famous Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area is the immense volcanic crater itself which is about 16 miles in diameter. The walls of the Ngorongoro Crater are covered with dense forest and the crater floor has quite a diverse range of habitats encompassing open grassland, an area of mature forest, and wetlands including a permanent lake.
There is a profusion of wildlife here and in a relatively short time you are almost bound to see lions, elephants, buffalo, black rhino, hippos, zebra, wildebeest, antelope and occasionally you can even find leopard. The views from the rim are breathtaking, and the Ngorongoro Crater is packed full of animals all year around.
On our last morning we have game drives in Lake Manyara National Park.
Lake Manyara National Park is a shallow, alkaline lake which attracts masses of pink flamingoes. A narrow strip of forest runs between the lake and the escarpment of the Great Rift Valley wall which forms the border to the park. Within this forest there is permanent fresh spring water trickling from the rift wall and this supports a great deal of wildlife, including massive troops of baboons which you can be entertained by for hours and many elephants. It is also one of the few places where it is possible to see tree-climbing lions.
After a picnic lunch in the park, we make our way back to Kilimanjaro airport in plenty time for your flight home.

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.
International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Tanzania can combine easily with other East African countries.
| For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country: | |
