Kilimanjaro Climb - Western Breach

THIS ROUTE WAS CLOSED IN 2006 AFTER A FATAL ROCK SLIDE.  IT IS NOW RE-OPEN BUT WE ADVISE AGAINST USING IT.

The Western Breach Route is a very special itinerary designed for those wishing to make the ascent to the summit in the daylight hours. It takes in the glades on the Lemosho Route as well as the drive to high altitude on the first day which takes us through magnificent scenery with views of the Great Rift Valley, Mt Meru and Longido. You cross the Shira Plateau and camp below Arrow Glacier. You then ascend the summit via the Westen Breach during the day. You spend a night in Kibo crater and trek to the top of the inner Reusch crater. Here there is a stunning view into the Ash Pit. We operate this trip at a very high level of comfort, which makes it more expensive than some of our other routes.

Not included

All Kilimanjaro treks are challenging and you need a good level of fitness. We use tents rather than the huts on this trek as we find they provide you with a better night's sleep (less disturbance) and more comfort than the huts which are in bad repair. The camping equipment and services we use on this route are designed to offer a higher than normal level of comfort with little extras like toilet tents so you don't have to use the public facilities, top quality sleeping bags, thick foam mattresses and a dining tent with tables and chairs in which to enjoy your specially prepared meals. Regardless of comfort you will need to be ready for very variable temperatures, from hot to extremely cold. The Moivaro Coffee Plantation Lodge is a top class lodge built on an old coffee plantation. It offers a far higher standard of accommodation than the Keys Hotel in Moshi which we use on some of our other routes.

Getting there

Flights will cost from £550-850 depending on season and availability (about £650 is most usual).
