This excellent African safari is perfect from January to March when the migration is in the southern Serengeti and it is the height of the calving season (which lions love!). It gives you the opportunity to see the Serengeti at its best with miles and miles of open savannah teaming with African wildlife - a truly classic African safari.

This safari is ideal for those wishing to experience Tanzania for the first time, or to combine a northern Tanzania safari with another destination. The Serengeti is the highlight of the trip for many people, especially with the luxury camping in this famous park. This prime wildlife safari also stops at the Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara.

Gombe Stream National Park is a forest reserve set on the shore of Lake Tanganyika, the longest freshwater lake in the world. This reserve is well known due to the pioneering research of Dr Jane Goodall. The highlight of this five day chimpanzee safari is encountering the wild chimpanzees - surely one of the most exhilarating experiences of the natural world, and one which few people are privileged to see.

A week which offers the perfect combination of traditional game viewing and off the beaten track hiking in the spectacular volcanic scenery of Northern Tanzania's Great Rift Valley.

An amazing trip to the interior of Tanzania to Mahale Mountains, home to wild chimpanzees on Lake Tanganyika and the vast herds of wildlife in the remote and little visited Katavi National Park.

This climb is a great climb for those wanting a slower climb and a more scenic route. This is also known as the Shira Route but is distinguished by taking in the Lemosho Glades and starting at a lower altitude. Traversing across the Shira plateau can be especially spectacular, and this route also ensures the best of the Machame route is also seen. An extra day is spent at Karanga valley to give the best chance of acclimatising and therefore making it to the summit. We often see more wildlife using this route than any other, particularly eland and buffaloes, and there is evidence of leopard and other animals. This is the longest route on the mountain and that means you have the greatest chance of success.

Tribes recommends to climb Kilimanjaro on the Machame Route as it is a good all rounder in terms of value for money, length of the trek, and success rate. It is a particularly scenic route, is less used than the Marangu route and is all the better for it. You ascend from the western side of Kilimanjaro and descend down the south face. Tribes has an excellent success record for Kilimanjaro climb on this route.

The Marangu Route attracts considerably more climbers than all the other routes put together, being the quickest and most direct route. It takes 5 days to climb, covering about 80 kilometres via the east side of the mountain. In order to help with acclimatisation you can add an extra day at 3,700 metres before continuing with the ascent. This is the only route on which we use the park huts for accommodation which have dormitory style rooms. It is also the only two-way route meaning that you ascend and descend by the same path.

The Rongai route begins on the northern side of the mountain and is the least travelled route. It is a long drive to the starting point but you are rewarded by fantastic views and the likelihood that you will be the only climbers around. If you take this route up the mountain you are obliged by park rules to descend via the Marangu Route which is the most popular and well used route.

The Umbwe route is one of the least used routes up Kilimanjaro. It is significantly shorter than the other routes whilst having good acclimatisation time. It also makes distances covered between overnights at altitude shorter and avoids a lot of the crowding which can be experienced in some sites during high season. It is, however, a very steep route and, whilst not a technical climb, is best suited to experienced trekkers.

Loliondo is a private wilderness area situated to the north east of the Serengeti. It is a Maasai community owned area of land, which is being used in partnership with a private safari company to offer exclusive safari and trekking options in this beautiful region.

Mafia and Chole are small islands 160km south of Zanzibar, Tanzania. If you want a peaceful retreat, come and stay at one of the great lodges here. Mafia and Chole are both perfect islands for anyone wanting to escape and stay away from crowds.

Mount Kilimanjaro is the crown of Tanzania. At an altitude of 5895m Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa, the highest freestanding mountain in the world, and one of the largest volcanoes ever to burst through the earth's crust. On a clear day it can be seen from more than 160km away, and although it stands only three degrees below the Equator, its peak is permanently covered with snow and ice. There is more than one way to climb Mount Kilimanjaro and, as an experienced Mount Kilimanjaro climb tour operator, Tribes offers a full range of options. Below is a rough outline of the differences, and to make your choice you need to consider your priorities. Remember that the longer you spend over the Mount Kilimanjaro climb the more time you have for acclimatisation and this will greatly increase your chances of a successful trek to the summit. And the shorter the route the steeper are the climbs!

There are some wonderful opportunities for trekking in the Ngorongoro Crater Highlands region - from an hour or two to many days. Many of the treks are arranged in cooperation with local Maasai communities, and often guided by Maasai, with their donkeys being used to carry the baggage.

The southern Tanzanian reserves of Selous and Ruaha are a perfect safari choice for anyone looking for remote Tanzania, away from the larger numbers of visitors in the northern region. Not only do they offer excellent jeep safaris, but also boat safaris, and renowned walking safaris.

With your private guide and vehicle (as with all our tailor made safaris) you can enjoy the amazing wildlife of northern Tanzania.

An alternative and less expensive way to experience Selous is to use the very comfortable Sable Mountain Lodge just outside of the reserve. Linking time here with time to relax on the coast makes for a wonderful holiday. Choose Saadani if you want a mixture of wildlife, beach and a little culture.

A great blend of gameviewing in Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater, and a hike up the Rift Valley wall from Silela village through the forest reserve and up the path carved over many years by thousands of elephants.

From the open savannah of Tanzania's Serengeti, to the volcanic enclosure of the Ngorongoro Crater, this African safari will bring you the best in wildlife viewing in northern Tanzania, After your safari, you can relax on the beach on the stunning, award-winning island of Chumbe, off Zanzibar in the Indian Ocean.

You are on the spice island of Zanzibar, cocktails in hand, and you watch from the verandah of your romantic thatched beach cottage as the sun dips into the Indian Ocean. Spend your Zanzibar holidays on white sand beaches, swimming or snorkelling over colourful coral reefs, savouring the extensive spice gardens, or exploring the narrow alleyways of Stone Town. Zanzibar is exotic and magical - don't miss it. Here are a few suggestions of where to spend your time, but we can arrange any combination of accommodation and holidays of any length on Zanzibar.

Fantastic value for money with a week on Zanzibar combining culture and the coast in two different lodges.
