Help me plan my trip

An escape to Zanzibar

Our Unforgettable Experiences pages are written by Tribes clients. They tell us in their own words what they really felt about the things they did and places and people they met on their holidays with Tribes. Hopefully this will help you when it comes to trying to decide where to go and what to do.

We'd like to thank everyone who takes the trouble to write one of these Experience reviews for us. This is a new part of our website since February 2010, and we hope they will be added to quickly over the coming months.

  3. It is a destination that should be combined with a trip elsewhere in East Africa unless you are a watersports enthusiast. If you on the other hand just want to chill out, then the Zanzibari Hotel is great.

  3. We stuck to the resort, apart from a day on a small boat snorkelling and dolphin watching. Very quiet and lush. Steady breeze at this time of year. Good swimming in the sea at high tide. Nice swimming pool on site. Spacious villa just above the sea. Excellent service.

  3. A very different experience from the busier pace of the camps. I highly recommend a beach stay to unwind, a few days gives you time to take in a tour or two, go diving or snorkelling and some time to lay on a beach chair and read a good book. We did all those things and it was a nice break before the more frantic pace of Stonetown. I thought 2 days was enough to see the sights of Stonetown- it was mainly shopping time and it was fun to go through the shops, but the more memorable moments were at Fumba.

  3. Very good trips to Jozani Forest to see the Red Colobus Monkeys and to the Spice Farm. Guides and taxi transfers are excellent. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable and ensure you have a truly authentic experience.
The Nungwi Village tour is very worthwhile. We had an excellent guide, Matemwe who lived in the village and enjoyed showing us the local culture and explaining in depth about their amazing robust and thriving community. We met the headteacher and teachers of the local school, who do a good job with very limited resources. Exercise books and pens we bought at the local supermarket were gratefully received as rarely do the pupils have their 'own' book to use!

  3. Overall we enjoyed our stay on Zanzibar. We went on some interesting excursions but feel we could have learned more about the island had these tours been more informative. The eastern coast where we stayed is particularly beautiful and the interior lush. A visit to the Jozani Forest is a must and where you will enjoy the close company of Red Colobus Monkeys!

  3. This was just what the doctor ordered - a really relaxing beach holiday away from the British winter and other people!
We snorkelled in the menai conservation area, and the limitations put on access to the reef was evident from the pristine coral and huge variety of both coral and fish. We were two out of only four people to visit the reef that day, and I am sure this limitation has benefited the reef.
