Arusha is in northern Tanzania, at the foot of Mount Meru. It is the main hub of the region, and the main base from which northern Tanzania safari operators work. It is about an hour from Kilimanjaro International Airport.
Commonly referred to as the ‘Haven of Peace’ it was a capital city of the Sultan of Zanzibar in the 1860s. Originally a fishing village, the city has developed into a modern bustling centre for Tanzania’s commercial and social affairs.
Stone Town is the old quarter of Zanzibar Town, the capital of Unguja Island, the biggest island on the Zanzibar archipelago.
