The Slipway

The Slipway 'The Souk' is a shopping complex in a coastal suburb of Dar es Salaam with a selection of restaurants, a great book shop, bank with ATM, cyber cafe and supermarket, plus a range of other craft shops.

The accommodation is in motel style rooms with air conditioning, a spacious bedroom and living area and bathroom. A great overnight stop or transfer option from Dar airport.  There are also studio apartments for longer stays.

The Slipway began life as a boatyard and you can still sail from here.  There  are regular trips out to the nearby beautiful island of Bongoyo, the first marine reserve in Tanzania. In the grounds of the boatyard is a bustling craft market, one of the best places in Dar to strike a bargain for some souvenirs!

There are four restaurants here - The Mashua Bar has grills and pizzas and Captain Ali's pub always has cold beer!  International flavours can be enjoyed at the Terrace which serves Italian food or the exotic Japanese restaurant Azuma.  There is also an ice cream and fruit juice bar.
