Ras Kutani

Set on the crescent of a white sandy beach just 35 km south of Dar es Salaam, Ras Kutani consists of 12 luxurious cottages made from natural materials that blend with the environment.  The nine cottages have day beds and hammocks and the four suites have private plunge pools too. There are cool thatched areas for dining and the lounge bar and plenty of fresh seafood and gorgeous cuisine with a pan-African flavour.

Warm blue waters of the Indian Ocean are flanked by a tropical freshwater lagoon.  Each room is en-suite (hot and cold freshwater showers) with 8ft wide beds and 240v lighting and large verandahs and day beds. Activities available here are water sports, snorkelling, walking, horse riding and fishing.

Ras Kutani offers long stretches of deserted beaches in a lovely location - away from the masses of tourist lodges found on other parts of the coast. Relaxation is the main thing to do here but if you do want to be active the warm waters will tempt you in for snorkelling and swimming or riding the waves on boogie boards.  If you want to stay a bit drier, kayaking is popular too!

Highlights

  • Luxury ocean setting on deserted beaches
  • Variety of activities including great walking trails and horse riding
  • Easy access from Dar Es Salaam
