    About Pongwe Beach Hotel

    • Close Panel
Situated on one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world, Pongwe Beach Hotel is a paradise retreat, set within a secluded bay on the east coast of Zanzibar. It is a modestly sized hotel, with ten traditional sea view cottages and an intimate atmosphere.  Pongwe Beach is a tranquil location - the ideal place to relax and enjoy Zanzibar’s distinctive, mellow pace. You can dive into the crystal clear waters of the Indian Ocean, or stretch out and soak up the sun on the beach.

The bay’s sapphire blue waters - protected by the reef one kilometre from the shore - are ideal for swimming and snorkelling. If the midday sun becomes too strong you can retreat into the shade of the palm trees that line the white sandy beach.

Pongwe has its own traditional wooden long boat with which the guests may gain access to deep waters before and beyond the reef. This provides the ideal opportunity to go game fishing for tuna, marlin, barracuda and king fish. There is also snorkelling out at Mnemba Atoll where you can will find many coral species and marine life; and at Kizimkazi where sharks, dolphins and turtles can be found. Scuba diving can be arranged whether it be a day dive or a Padi open water course.

The ten beach front Zanzibarian cottages are set in beautiful gardens.  The sea view cottages have traditional lime wash walls, and thatched roofs made from woven palm leaves. All cottages have en suite bathrooms, with Moroccan-style walk in showers. Each cottage also has its own private terrace where guests may enjoy the sunrise and a leisurely breakfast. You will find various local hand-crafted Zanzibari doors and traditional beds.

Pongwe Beach Hotel is about an hour’s drive from Stone Town.

    Pricing guidelines for Tanzania

    • Open Panel

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Tanzania can combine easily with other East African countries.

For a specific personal quote based on any tailor made itinerary you have in mind, please contact us and we’ll be happy to help you.
