    About Pole Pole Lodge

    • Close Panel

Pole Pole is a beach lodge on tiny Mafia Island, surrounded by tall palms and sea breezes. Excellent diving and snorkelling can be experienced in the nearby Chole Bay. Comfortable luxury and friendly service makes this the perfect place to unwind after a safari.

Each of the seven bungalows covers 60 sq m with personalized fixtures and furnishings. The floors are made out of hardwoods, the furniture from mahogany and the door and window frames from doussi. The beds have wooden slats and high quality spring mattresses. The verandahs have large 'day beds', tables and chairs looking over the water through the palms. Bathrooms have double washbasins, showers, bidets and toilets. There are two ceiling fans in each bungalow, one in the bedroom and the other on the verandah. Two of the bungalows are linked making them ideal family accommodation. The food here is superb, a blend of different culinary traditions using mostly organically grown food bought from local farmers and fishermen. The bar serves fresh fruit juices, a range of cold drinks, beer, wine and other acoholic beverages. Bottled water is provided in each bungalow daily.

Pole Pole can arrange a variety of excursions, including swimming, snorkelling and diving in Mafia Marine Park. Tanzania's first marine park covers an area of some 821 sq kilometres and is home to over 400 species of fish. Guests can also take boat cruises to other islands, enjoy quiet picnics, have a 4x4 tour of Mafia island and visit local villages and markets. Back at the lodge, a trained masseuse offers massage, manicure and pedicure. There is also a small library with a range books and magazines, playing cards and board games.

    Pricing guidelines for Tanzania

    • Open Panel

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Tanzania can combine easily with other East African countries.

For a specific personal quote based on any tailor made itinerary you have in mind, please contact us and we’ll be happy to help you.
