About Lukula Selous

  • Close Panel

Lukula Selous accommodates a maximum of just 8 guests and offers game drives, guided walks and tracking and canoe trips (water levels permiting) in game reserve. The habitats include flood plains, dense riverine forests, open savannahs and hills. Three rivers run through the area, ensuring a year round water supply.

There are 4 luxury tents set on the banks of the Luwego River, shaded and cooled by forest. the tents have comfortable beds, handmade furniture and colourful fabrics. There is a dressing area and an open air bathroom with a 200 litre bucket shower, twin hand basins and flush toilet. There is hot water on request 24 hours a day.

The main building has a thatch roof and open sides, for a cooling breeze. There is a cosy lounge and a dining area where meals can be taken around the large tabe by the light of the chandelier. There is also a traditional campfire on the rivernank. The camp has a small library with reference information. Fresh meals are preaped from locally-sourced products and bread and cakes are baked in the oven each day. Lavish picnics are available for guests who will be away from the camp during the day.

Activities include morning and afternoon game drives in 4x4 vehicles and guided walks led by armed guides who use tradityonal tracking techniques and 'grass hides' to locate and safely observe wildlife. Canoes and infaltable kayaks can be used on the rivers when water levels permit, and half day and whole day trips are possible. For guests staying at the camp for longer than nights a stay at a fly camp can be arranged, for an even closer wildlife experience.

Lukula Selous is closed for the 2011 season but is planned to re-open in 2012.

Pricing guidelines for Tanzania

  • Open Panel

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Tanzania can combine easily with other East African countries.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:
£

  £50 to £150
