About Lake Masek Tented Camp

  • Close Panel

A lovely tented camp with 20 well equipped en-suite tented rooms at Lake Masek in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area adjacent to the Southern Serengeti plains.

The rooms are canvas under thatch and pole structure and on raised decks looking towards the nearby lake. There are five with king size beds, 15 with twin beds and the camp has solar power. There is a cosy lounge area and bar looking over the lake and a library area. Meals are served in the dining area or on the balcony.

Note that Lake Masek Camp is in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and you would normally be game viewing inside the NCA. Additional park entry fees for Serengeti will be required should you enter through the park gates.

Bush breakfasts and sundowner drinks and snacks can be arranged in private locations on request.

Walks or escorted hikes with local Maasai guides can be arranged to gain an insight to their culture and way of life.

This whole area is famous for it's archeological findings and volcanic geology. Lake Masek is just one hour from Olduvai Gorge where there is a museum and you can also visit the Laetoli archeological site where footrpints of Australopithecus afarensis were discovered by Mary Leakey in the mid 1970s, which demonstrates that 3.6million years ago early humans were walking upright.

Pricing guidelines for Tanzania

  • Open Panel

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Tanzania can combine easily with other East African countries.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:
£

  £50 to £150

  £150 to £300

  £300 to £500

It seems to me that this is a tented camp that wishes it was a hotel. It even has huge bathtubs in the rooms, even though this hot dry area is very lacking in water. Its position overlooking Lake Masek is admittedly good at certain times of year (December to March) and there is quality in much of what is done here so it has a place if you want a luxury tented camp in the Ndutu area. It wouldn't be my first choice in Ndutu though. Try to get a tent in the first row nearest the lake, as the second row tents are just not as private.
