About Kisampa

  • Close Panel

Kisampa is a private community conservation sanctuary in Eastern Tanzania, bordering Saadani National Park, about 60 miles north of Dar es Saalam. Guests here are free to spend their time as they wish, there are ample activities on offer. With accommodation for a maximum of 14 guests, an intimate atmosphere is ensured.

Guests are free to go walking, maybe even camping out under the stars, exploring the diverse habitiat which includes riverine forests, open grassland, oxbow lakes and rolling hills. This area is home to a great range of animal and plant life and is also a great birding destination. Night drives can also be arranged to view nocturnal life. Game drives in Saadani National Park are also popular. There are 5 villages in Kisampa and guests are encouraged to visit these to meet the locals, maybe to share their skills and experience or to learn a new skill themselves.

Accommodation is in 6 spacious bungalows with views of the bush beyond. All have their own bathroom with luxury bucket shower and composting toilet. There is a veranda where guests can sit and relax. Accommodation is best described as rustic simplicity, in keeping with the environment. Meals are generally a fixed menu, using local products and can be enjoyed in the main dining/lounge area or al fresco by the fire pit. Bread is baked on the premises and tasty honey is made on site, by local villagers, one of Kisampa's poverty alleviation initiatives. Kisampa has a library with useful reference books and a gift shop selling local handicrafts.

Pricing guidelines for Tanzania

  • Open Panel

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Tanzania can combine easily with other East African countries.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:
£

  £50 to £150

  £150 to £300

  £300 to £500

I visited here when it was only just opening, so I know that the rooms have changed a bit now.  I think they still have no walls, which is not for everyone, but I thought they were great!  Kisampa really is a fantastic and unique place, particularly if you want to get involved with local communities, see the many projects that are going on out in rural Tanzania or have children and want to interact with Tanzanian families.
