About Kirurumu Manyara Lodge

  • Close Panel

Kirurumu Manyara Lodge is set high on the edge of the Great Rift Valley, with panoramic views eastward over Lake Manyara National Park and Mount Losimingori. Behind Kirurumu, the Ngorongoro Highlands rise, forming the gateway to Ngorongoro Crater, Olduvai Gorge and the Serengeti.

This tented lodge is comfortable, built with sensitivity and commitment to eco-sensitive tourism, as well as ensuring the comfort of guests. First class service, very comfortable and well-spaced accommodation, delicious home cooked food and a relaxed and peaceful atmosphere are provided here at Kirurumu.

Each of the tented rooms at Kirurumu is tastefully furnished with a wooden verandah with armchairs and table, full en-suite facilities (flush toilet, shower, handbasin), towels and all other soft bedding & furnishings. There is 24 hour electricity. The Lodge has a gift shop and a thatched dining room serving local and European dishes, and there is a well-stocked bar with incredible views from the terrace over Lake Manyara. Every room has power plugs so you can re-charge batteries. Tea or coffee is delivered to your room with a wake up call in the morning.

There are many walking trails from the lodge and local Masai guides will be happy to escort you on botanical and birding walks. You can also hire mountain bikes and take guided trips into the valley and the local village and meet the farmers and tribes people.

Activities and excursions available from Kirurumu include:
Day and half-day excursions to Lake Manyara National Park
Day trips to Ngorongoro Crater.
Ethno-botanical walks with knowledgeable and informative local Maasai, of any duration from one hour to one day, visiting homes and bomas of the local Iraqw and Mbulu tribes, the river gorge and learning firsthand about local flora and fauna.
Trips to Karatu and Mto Wa Mbu markets.
Trekking: One to three days (with support vehicle or trekking just with the Maasai and donkeys) including unusual treks to Mt. Losimingori, the Crater Highlands & Mount Makarot, Lake Eyasi and Empakai Crater.
Local cultural tours, e.g. around Mto Wa Mbu and surrounding area.
Mountain biking can also be arranged by prior arrangement.

Kirurumu Manyara Lodge is placed in a key position from which to access Northern Tanzania's prime attractions. It is about 2 hours' drive from Arusha and just 15 minutes from Lake Manyara air strip.

Fair Trade / Responsible Travel

Great care was taken not to cut away any trees, the tent bases were made from local volcanic stone and the roofs are thatched, blending into the environment. Impact on the Lodge''s surroundings has been absolutely minimal, all utility lines are carefully placed underground and hot water is created by solar panels. As a result, bird life around the Lodge has increased, and even the shy Dik- Dik, the smallest of the antelope family, has remained resident around camp.

Pricing guidelines for Tanzania

  • Open Panel

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Tanzania can combine easily with other East African countries.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:
£

  £50 to £150

I love Kirurumu!  The view is great, but it's the friendly staff, good food and comfortable rooms that make it.  Really great showers and you can't believe you are in a TENT!!  There is a huge variety of hiking and game viewing you can do from here, so it's a great place to stay for several nights if you want.
