About Kirurumu Tarangire Lodge

  • Close Panel

Kirurumu Under Canvas Tarangire Lodge is a tented lodge with 10 spacious tented rooms, situated on the northern border of Tarangire National Park. Since there is no fence between the lodge of the park, wildlife often roams very close to the lodge, even through it!

The tents are on a solid base and have a thatched roof over them.  In fact you don't really feel like you're in a tent exactly, more like a room with canvas walls and windows with zips!  This feeling is added to since the entrance to your tent is via a small verandah and a lockable glass sliding door.  The en-suite bathroom is a solid structure too, with a proper basin, flush loo and hot shower.  The beds are large and comfortable, with mozzy netting around them. You have lights in the tents, provided by solar and generator backup.

The lodge has a dining tent with waiter service, and a lounge/bar tent. There is also a fire place where pre and post-dinner drinks and chats tend to take place.

The food here is very good quality, and the staff are all very friendly and good-humoured. A team of Maasai look after your safety, walking you to and from your tent, and also offer fascinating ethobotanical walks giving an insight in the flora of the area and how it is used by the Maasai.

Guests staying at Kirurumu Tarangire Lodge can enjoy game drives in Tarangire national park, and take full day treks in the local area. Mountain bikes can be hired on request.

Kirurumu Tarangire Lodge is a great value, mid-range tented lodge with its heart in conservation as well as providing an excellent night under African skies.

Best time

Tarangire is definitely best in the dry season from about July to October/mid-November before the rains come. This is the time that the permanent Tarangire River attracts wildlife from miles around, especially elephants. There is of course resident game here all year though, and sometimes you can see really huge herds of elephants here early in the year before the rains which tend to arrive by mid-late March.

Meals

Meals are taken at individual tables in the dining tent. The food is very good, and the waiter service friendly.

Pricing guidelines for Tanzania

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Tanzania can combine easily with other East African countries.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:
£

  £50 to £150

  £150 to £300

  £300 to £500

We've worked with the Kirurumu camps for many years because both their standards and their ethos are very good. They care about giving clients a very comfortable experience and great food, but they also care about improving the environments they work in and helping the communities local to their camps.
Their Tarangire lodge is indeed very comfortable, and at only about 30 minutes from the part gate, very quick to access Tarangire's wildlife. In fact, you can see the park from the lodge as it is only a stone's throw away, but there is no access point here. Wildlife doesn't know this though, so elephants, kudu and other wildlife can often be seen close to camp.
