    About Fumba Beach Lodge

    • Close Panel

Fumba Beach Lodge situated on one of Zanzibar'’s most beautiful and secluded beaches, is a luxurious and peaceful hideaway, offering a perfect blend of casual elegance and friendly service.

Set in 40 acres of exquisite wilderness with three naturally sheltered beaches, Fumba Beach Lodge has only 26 rooms to ensure your privacy. The rooms are scattered throughout the extensive grounds, shaded by a forest of magnificent baobab trees and whispering palm fronds and cooled by gentle sea breezes.  The twenty deluxe rooms, with en-suite bathroom, private terrace and stunning ocean views, are spaciously suitable for families, couples or individuals.  The 4 luxury suites include a private roof terrace, open air shower and bath overlooking the clear blue waters of the Indian Ocean.  For the ultimate in extravagance, spoil yourself in either of the two unique lodgings cradled in a magnificent baobab tree creating a romantic setting.

The comfortable open-air restaurant serves a tantalizing array of expertly prepared dishes including local specialties, the freshest seafood and traditional international cuisine in a relaxing and tranquil atmosphere. The staff are very friendly and professional.  There is a unique beach bar which was constructed from an authentic Zanzibari dhow. Situated under an enormous baobab on a seaside cliff, you will be absorbed by the idyllic setting to watch the sun go down.

Whether you want to sample the excitement of water sports, the tranquility of the beach, relax on a sunset cruise or explore the secret corners of this fascinating island, the staff will be only too happy to make sure that you have the holiday of a lifetime. Fumba Beach Lodge is an ideal location to explore everything the island has to offer.  It is situated along 2 kilometres of coastline offering three secluded and exclusive beaches.  The cliff top swimming pool provides a breathtaking view of the Indian Ocean –the perfect place to relax with a delicious snack or a cool, refreshing drink.

Fumba has an optional ‘Safari Blue’ trip which is a full day trip and includes use of top quality snorkelling equipment with guides and instructors, ice cold sodas, mineral water and beer and a delicious Zanzibari seafood lunch.  Safari Blue explores the Menai Bay Conservation Area, which is home to two different species of dolphins.   After snorkelling you are then taken to Kwale island where you enter your “desert island” restaurant. The buffet lunch includes fish, slipper lobster, calamari, rice and sauces all served hot from the grill. The staff also prepares a large selection of delicious tropical fruits. Then why not join the crew for a sail on an “ngalawa ”- a local canoe with outriggers which has been carved from a single mango tree.  You return home under lantern sail to the backdrop of a magical African sunset.  They can also offer Jozani Forest Tours, Spice Tours and historic Stone Town tours.

Whether you are an experienced diver or interested in trying scuba for the first time, Fumba is an ideal base to explore Zanzibar's underwater paradise. Scuba Do Diving, is a PADI Dive Centre which offers scuba diving from Fumba Beach Lodge giving you the best diving from South to North of Zanzibar Island.  Discover Scuba Diving and Open Water courses for beginners as well as Advanced Diving courses for experienced divers are all on offer. For children aged 8 and up, they can try a magical bubble-blowing experience allowing them to try scuba in the swimming pool.  You can explore a number of stunning dive sites within the Menai Bay Conservation Area directly from Fumba Beach Lodge. As the only dive centre offering diving in this area, you have the chance to explore reefs which very few people have seen. In addition to diving in the Fumba area, they also offer scuba excusions to Kendwa Beach dive centre on the northwest tip of Zanzibar - a scenic 2 hour journey across the island. From Kendwa, there are a number of dive sites catering for all levels of experience including Mnemba Island, east coast reefs, Hunga reef and Tumbatu Island.

Menai Bay has been dedicated as a conservation area since 1998 due to its outstanding natural beauty. Established by the World Wildlife Federation (WWF), Menai Bay Conservation Area was designed to give Zanzibaris in the Fumba area a vested interest in their environment so they will protect it. The project is aimed at teaching villagers how to conserve their natural heritage, and how to profitably exploit it in a sustainable manner. Eco-tourism plays an important role in that profitability and Fumba Beach Lodge is the first and only lodge offering accommodation on the pristine Fumba Peninsula.

    Pricing guidelines for Tanzania

    • Open Panel

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Tanzania can combine easily with other East African countries.

For a specific personal quote based on any tailor made itinerary you have in mind, please contact us and we’ll be happy to help you.
