Cape Town, Winelands & the Garden Route

This is a suggested itinerary and can be changed to suit you and will also be better in various orders of itinerary at different times of the year - please ask us for details. For example, if it's not whale watching time in Hermanus, take the scenic Route 62 all the way from the winelands through to Outshoorn, at other times of the year you could spend more time around the Hermanus - Cape Augulas peninsula.

A winning combination, based on self-drive, but using guides wherever they will add to your experience if you wish. We'’ve also based this on some gorgeous and interesting places to stay. If you wish to make the trip even more fair trade based, ask about using Hazel's Homestays in Oudtshoorn!

Working your way from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth (or the other way), you will see the sights of one of Africa's most vibrant and cosmopolitan cities, the winelands with their stunning scenery and fantastic food and wines and the pretty coastal villages and parks of the Garden Route, before a few days of safari at the end.

This is purely a suggested itinerary based on the most popular places to see, the list of accommodation choices is huge and these are just some of the options. Ask us for recommendations and a tailor made quotation.

Pricing guidelines for South Africa

  • Open Panel

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). South Africa combines well with Botswana, Mauritius and Mozambique.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:
