A really wonderful week exploring the stunning sights and tastes of Cape Town, Cape Peninsula and the nearby wine-growing district around Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. Based on self-drive and staying in lovely, personal guest houses or boutique hotels.

Best time

Summer (Oct-Feb) is generally hot and dry with temps from about 16-23°C. From Nov-Feb there is an occasional wind which can be cold and strong. Winter (May-July) is mostly cold and wet (7-20°C), with some sunny days.

Getting there

There are direct flights from the UK to Cape Town from about £600 plus taxes.

Itinerary

  • Open Panel 

Duration: 6 days

  1. Day 1:
    Arrive Cape Town and pick up your hire car. Travel to your guest house. You have a free afternoon to get your bearings.
  2. Days 2-3:
    Two free days to explore the city on your own, or take an optional city or township tour, and/or visit the Peninsula. (B)
  3. Day 4:
    Take a leisurely journey to the Winelands. Pass through Stellenbosch centre and continue towards the Jonkershoek Valley. You have the next two nights in a local auberge. (B)
  4. Day 5:
    A day to explore the winelands, with its beautiful scenery, attractive towns and villages and, of course, vineyards offering wine tours. (B)
  5. Day 6:
    Free morning, then drive back to Cape Town to drop off your hire car and continue with onward arrangements. (B)

Pricing guidelines for South Africa

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). South Africa combines well with Botswana, Mauritius and Mozambique.

 
For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:
