AmaZulu Lodge is located in St Lucia village in KwaZulu Natal, on the edge of iSimangaliso Wetlands Park (formerly known as Greater St Lucia Wetlands Park). It is built from natural materials and the buidlings are thatched. There are 18 guest rooms located around a large, lush garden. All rooms are designed to reflect the rounded forms of traditional Zulu huts, but also feature modern facilities such as air conditioning, TV and tea and coffee making facilities. Each room has an ensuite bathroom with both shower and bath. All rooms also have a private terrace looking out on to the garden. Two of the rooms are larger and can accommodate up to 3 adults or 2 adults and 2 children, so are ideal for families.
The central shaded lapa is the location for breakfast, a sumptuous buffet including fresh fruit, pastries, freshly baked bread and cheeses, which can be eaten while enjoying views of the swimming pool. The lodge also has a boma area where dinner can be taken. The lounge deck is set up high and has views of St Lucia village and is a perfect spot to enjoy the sunset. The lodge has its own beauty salon where guests can treat themselves to some pampering in the forms of manicures, pedicures and aromatherapy.
The location is ideal for lovers of the outdoors, with the vast iSimangaliso Wetlands Park on the doorstep, waiting to be explored. This area is rich in birdlife and marine mammals such as hippos and crocodiles, as well as numerous species of fish. Turtles are also to be found here. Inland are the hills, savannah and grassland of Zululand. The area can be explored on horseback. The lodge can arrange beach rides across the sand at low tide and game rides in the nature reserve where zebra, bushbuck, warthogs and impala may be seen. These rides are available to both experienced and novice riders. The lodge also offers night drives of up to 3 hours duration in open vehicles with spotlights. Nocturnal species that might be seen include hippo, buffalo, spotted eagle owl, kudu, nightjar, chameleon and maybe leopard. Kayaking is a popular pasttime and is great way to explore the area with its mangrove-covered islands. This is also an area known for whale watching, Between May and November Humback Whales visit the coast and can be seen. Guests can take special boat trips out into the ocean to observe these magnificent animals. Dolphins can be seen year round. Other activities available nearby include cycling, fishing, walking and hiking, golf and a range of watersports.
