About De Zeekoe Guest Farm

  • Close Panel

De Zeekoe Guest Farm is a working farm of 2,000 hectares on the banks of the Olifants River in the Klein Karoo region at Oudtshoorn. Animals here include cattle, sheep, ostriches, springbok and other antelope.

There are luxury ensuite rooms in the main house all of which are well equipped with under floor heating, air conditioning, bar fridge, satellite TV and tea and coffee making facilities. The rooms offer lovely mountain views. There are also log cabins set on the water's edge offering spacious, open plan accommodation and large private decks and providing seclusion and privacy.

Guest activities include private tours round the farm, small game viewing, fishing, canoeing, mountain biking and hiking. Alternatively guests can take it easy by the swimming pool or wander down to the river for some bird watching.

Local attractions within easy driving distance include the famous Cango Caves, ostrich show farms and the scenic Swartberg Mountain Pass.

Meerkat Magic is a unique attraction offered at De Zeekoe. Grant McIllrath (also known as the Meerkat man) at de Zeekoe, promotes and highlights the seldom noticed smaller residents called the 'Shy 5'. These are namely the meerkat, bat-eared fox, porcupine, aardwolf and aardvark. The very unique meerkat tours are done on the reserve which is over 2000 hectares, by Grant, nature conservationist and research biologist guide. Grant meets the tour group early in the morning, after which they are taken to the field and seated to wait for the meerkats to come out of their burrows at sunrise and go about their daily activities. Please bear in mind that the tours are not guaranteed because they are subject to weather (meerkats tend to stay underground during cloudy weather). The meerkats are also wild and because they do not stay in the same burrow every night, Grant needs to find them everyday for his tours. He prefers not using any tracking devices on his meerkats. The Meerkat Magic conservation project is mainly funded by observe & conserve eco-tourism and agri-tourism, which is sustainable and practices alternative land usage.

Pricing guidelines for South Africa

  • Open Panel

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). South Africa combines well with Botswana, Mauritius and Mozambique.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:

  £50 to £100
