About Amangwane

  • Close Panel

Amangwane is a rustic camp with basic rather than luxurious facilitiesd. It was established as a community development joint venture, with a large proportion of the profits going towards the local community. The main emphasis is on outdoor activities including game drives, guided walks, canoeing and boat trips. Amangwane is situated in Kosi Bay on the northern coastline of KwaZulu Natal.

Accommodation is in 10 reed chalets, each with twin beds and ensuite bathroom. There is a lapa area with a camp fire where guests can enjoy drinks and meals and share their experiences of the day gone and expectations of days to come.

Kosi Bay is a region of coastal dunes, sandy beaches, swamp forests and mangroves and is a great haven for wildlife and birdlife, with over 250 species of birds. The warm, clear waters are ideal for snorkelling. Canoeing and boat cruises are other great ways to explore this fascinating area. Kosi Bay is known for its populations of Loggerhead and Leatherback Turtles. During the months of November through to February the females come ashore to lay their eggs, a wonderful spectacle to behold. Amangwane offers walks led by experienced guides on trails near the camp from an hour to a full day in duration. Game viewing in nearby Tembe Elephant Park and Ndumo is another popular activity, giving guests the chance to sopt the Big 5. The camp also organises trips over the Mozambique border to Ponta D'ora for boat rides and swimming with dolphins. The camp has very strong links with the local community and guests are welcome to visit villages and schools during their stay.

Pricing guidelines for South Africa

  • Open Panel

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). South Africa combines well with Botswana, Mauritius and Mozambique.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:

  • This was our favourite place, albeit the simplest. Hot water and electricity for just 4 hours each night, simple hut accommodation and no fanciness! B...
