Madikwe & Johannesburg

The highlight of this trip is the hugely rewarding Madikwe Game Reserve (malaria-free) with its excellent gameviewing. Jaci'’s Safari Lodge always gets rave reviews from our clients, and it is also very child-friendly if you want to take the family on safari. The Grace is a perfect haven in Johannesburg, and if you add an optional half day trip to Soweto at the end, this becomes a varied, exciting short holiday.

Best time

In the dry winter months from May to August wildlife tends to congregate at the waterholes. Nights can be cold. The vegetation can be dense in the rainy season from October to March.

Itinerary

Duration: 5 days (+/-)

Day 1:
You will be met at Johannesburg airport and driven (about 4½ hours) north west to Madikwe Game Reserve. Here you stay at Jaci'’s Safari Lodge as the base for your game viewing activities for 3 nights. (FB)
Days 2-3:
2 full days guided game viewing from Jaci's Safari Lodge. (FB)
Day 4:
After your morning game drive, you will be transferred back to Johannesburg and stay at the elegant Grace Hotel. The hotel is within easy walking distance of the Rosebank Mall and several excellent restaurants. (B)
Day 5:
This morning you will be collected frm the hotel by a local Sowetan guide for a half day tour of Soweto, including lunch at a local shebeen, before being transferred to Johannesburg airport for your onward flight. (B, L)

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). South Africa combines well with Botswana, Mauritius and Mozambique.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:
