Down to Earth: Kruger and the Panorama Route

This trip includes a short tour of the Panorama Route, one of the most beautiful destinations in South Africa. We'll make sure we show you some of the most spectacular parts, including Bourke's Luck Potholes - amazing rock formations created millions of years ago. And no taste of the Panorama Route would be complete without a chance to stand and look out from God's Window and absorb the seemingly endless view across forests and game reserves to the mountains beyond.

The highlight of this trip, however, has to be the wonderful game viewing in the Kruger National Park. From antelope to zebra, the Kruger is home to all the animals, birds and reptiles we associate with Africa including, of course, the 'big five'. With experienced safari guides, you have a great chance of seeing baboon, elephant, lion, cheetah, hippo, leopard, warthog, wild dog, buffalo, impala - the list just goes on and on. The park is the largest in Africa and has some 145 animals species and over 500 bird species. Not much can compare to watching a herd of elephants playing in the mud pools or a lazy pride of lions resting in the heat of the day. This is South Africa at its best!

This unmissable African wildlife adventure combines well with our Cape Town and Winelands and Garden Route trips.

This is one of Tribes' Down to Earth holidays. This is a great range of more affordable, set itinerary holidays, as opposed to our tailor made trips.
The Down to Earth holidays also have their own website where you will find lots more details about each trip.

This trip can be taken at any time of year, though it would be more comfortable for most people from April to October. From October to March, Mpumalanga and Limpopo are hot and rainy. From April to September it is warm and dry.

Getting there

Getting there If you are taking this itinerary on its own (i.e. not combining with other services) you will need to arrive and depart from Johannesburg airport. Note - if taking the shuttle bus back to Joburg at the end of the trip you should not book an onward flight till the following day. We can arrange international flights from the UK for you. You would normally leave the UK on an overnight flight the day before this itinerary and on the way back would also take a night flight arriving back in the UK the day after this itinerary.

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). South Africa combines well with Botswana, Mauritius and Mozambique.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:
