Whalesong Lodge

Overlooking Walker Bay in the perfect spot for whale watching this small Guest House provides a homely retreat with personal attention, home cooked delightful food and a view (in season) of the mighty Southern Right Whales as they swim past in the Ocean.

The lodge consists of just five rooms, all en-suite with a private verandah to enjoy the sea breezes and views. The bathrooms have under floor heating and seperate bath and shower.

There is a small pool you can swim in the sea there in a number of small sheltered coves within easy walking distance. A short drive will take you to a number of sandy beaches, eg:

  • La Bay Chardonnay is only 200m from the lodge.
  • Die Plaat is 20-30 minutes away by foot along the duivelsgat hiking trail. (By car 5 minutes) You will also be able to explore the Klipgate Caves.

The lodge is south of Hermanus at De Kelders- in the Overberg with its diverse fynbos, coastal cliffs and deserted beaches only two hour from Cape Town (about 160km). Near the fishing village of Gansbaai world renowned for its Great White sharks.  The coastal area is famous for the floral fynbos kingdom with more than 8000 species of plants.  There are many hiking trails and gentle walks in this area.

The lodge has a passion for good South African food and prepares dinner every second night, guests are invited to join in the preparation if they want (preferably with a glass of fantastic local wine in hand!).  The fishing harbour is only minutes away for extremely fresh local ingrediants.

Highlights

  • Whale watching from the shore
  • Small, personal lodge with friendly service
  • Stunning coastal location in Hermanus area

Viewpoints

Just yards from teh cliff tops and if you want a quiet place to sit and whale catch you couldn't get better! Easting breakfast takes a long time when you are distracted by whales swimming about in the bay but is an ideal start to the day! Friendly hosts were always willing to help book trips and offer advice for excursions and places to eat.
