About Shiluvari Lakeside Lodge

  • Close Panel

Shiluvari Lakeside Lodge is set against a backdrop of mountains and forests, holy lakes and sacred ruins, in the heart of Ancient Venda culture. This is a great place to relax and unwind, enjoy the views of the Albasini Dam and Luonde Mountains in 30 hectares of natural land in the Albasini Conservancy which is home to many bird species, small antelope such as bushbuck and duiker and nocturnal mammals including genets and civets.

The main lodge, was once the old farmhouse and has an award winning Wood-Owl country restaurant, the Hog & Hound bar and fireplace. There is a “Textures” art shop, a terrace for al-fresco dining and a lakeside swimming pool. There is a motorized raft, ‘the Savannah,' for sunset cruises along the Luvuvhu River. The friendly staff are all excellent and attentive.

There are a mix of standard rooms, thatched chalets and a family suite, all privately situated away from each other and all being furnished with traditional, local decorations and having mosquito nets, hair dryers, safes, tea and coffee facilities.

One of Shiluvari's main aims is to promote the local artists of the region which is incredibly rich in arts and culture. The Venda people are at the heart of this and the lodge offers the Ribolla Arts Route which show cases the artists of the region. Plus there are textile weaver, beeders, wood carvers and potters. Guided tours are available in the region including to the Venda myths and legends routes.

Shiluvari has been involved in Fair Trade Tourism since the lodge started in 1995 and was one of the first lodges in South Africa to be acredited with the recognition from FTTSA (Fair Trade Tourism South Africa).

Pricing guidelines for South Africa

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). South Africa combines well with Botswana, Mauritius and Mozambique.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:
