Rhino Walking Safaris: Plains Camp and Sleep Out

In their 12,000 hectare Kruger private concession area, Rhino Walking Safaris operates Rhino Post Safari Lodge, Plains Camp and also have a Sleep Out platform.

Plains Camp has just four luxury tents in the 'old pioneer' style, rustic yet very comfortable indeed. There is an en-suite bathroom with flush loo and hot shower. There is also a dining room and lounge, a campfire area and a small plunge pool. The camp looks out onto a wide plain where many superb wildlife sightings are often experienced.

The camp is ideal for anyone wanting a more remote camp from which to enjoy game walks. Walks of about 3-4 hours are usually taken in the cool of the mornings, then in the afternoons you are driven to a different area for a shorter walk. After sundowners you take a night drive back to camp.

The Sleep Out platform is yet another experience which Rhino Walking Safaris offers, and this is for anyone who wants to get closer to the wilderness. The elevated wooden platform has mozzie nets with sleeping bags, and there are flushing loos and a small kitchen area. You could have a night here and then walk back to Plains Camp.

Viewpoints

The combination of a day or two at Rhino Post Safari Lodge, then a couple of days walking based at Plains Camp, and one night out on the Sleep Out platform makes for a truly excellent and varied safari experience in this excellent, private part of Kruger.

Situation

In the Mutlumuvi concession in Kruger National Park. This is an excellent walking area, bordering Sabi Sands Game reserve. You need to arrive at Rhino Post Safari lodge no later than 2pm for a transfer to Plains Camp.

Activities

Walking safaris and game drives. Note: the sleep out platform can be out of bounds in bad weather. Also, the first people to book a date in Plains Camp get the choice of whether the Sleep out is to be used or not. Subsequent bookings will be advised of this.

Facilities

Plains is a simple rustic camp, but it does have a small plunge pool.
