    About Mpila Camp

    • Close Panel

Mpila Camp offers a variety of accommodation in a peaceful setting in Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Park. This is an area well known for the diversity of its animal and bird life and its varied scenery. As well as the Big 5, guests here can hope to see cheetah and wild dog in the park.

At the camp there are 12 single-room thatched rest huts accommodating up to 4 people each. This section of the camp is self catering and guests prepare their own food in a central kitchen. Communal ablution blocks are situated close by. Mpila also has 2 self-contained 3-bedroomed cottages, each accommodating 7 people, with a cook on hand to prepare food supplied by guests. For smaller groups, there are also 6 self-catering chalets which accommodate five people each. These have two bedrooms, a bathroom, kitchen, and a lounge/dining room. The Safari Tented Camp at Mpila consists of seven 2-bedded and two 4- bedded units, all with bathroom ensuite. Each unit has a verandah and a fully equipped kitchen and dining area is connected to each tent by a wooden boardwalk. Barbecue facilities are available. These units are self-catering and are serviced daily. Petrol is available on site while curios, cool drinks and camera film can be purchased from the camp shop, but no provisions or restaurant facilities are provided.

Guests here have a choice of activities. There are day and night game drives with a knowledgeable guide, alternatively guests can use their own vehicles and opt to follow one of the autotrails. Guided and self guided walks are offered, as are boat trips to the Hluhluew Dam. There are picnic sites throughout the park.

    Pricing guidelines for South Africa

    • Open Panel

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). South Africa combines well with Botswana, Mauritius and Mozambique.

For a specific personal quote based on any tailor made itinerary you have in mind, please contact us and we’ll be happy to help you.
