Marataba is a unique blend of luxury and bush at the foot of the majestic Waterberg Mountains, just 3 hours drive north of Johannesburg. It is part of the Marakele National Park which forms a transition zone between species of wildlife and plants from the arid western-northern zones and the moister warmer areas to the east. Home to many large mammals including elephant, buffalo, leopard and cheetah, the area has also had a pack of wild dogs introduced who are currently being protected in a boma and soon to be released. Many anteleope species and zebra are resident here.
Marataba lodge is designed with this history of the ancient peoples who lived in this area, the stone buildings remaniscent of the remains found across the region. Blended with bush colours and modern boutique style of design, the stone and canvas mix provides a haven of relaxation in the cool rooms. The lodge has a swimming pool and many hammocks and loungers around the garden providing a sanctuary to relax, between game drives. A river flows past the landscape providing water for many animals and a picturesque landscape.
Each of the 15 luxury tented suites has been carefully incorporated into the surrounding bushveld while a canopy of African trees provide vital shade. The bathrooms all have indoor and outdoor showers and a stone bath tub. They also provide hairdryers, safes, toiletries and electricity.
Meals are served outside in the gardens or on the decks below the stars.
