About Makanyane Safari Lodge

  • Close Panel

Set in 1,800 hectares inside the Madikwe Game Reserve, the second largest in South Africa, Makanyane Safari Lodge offers luxurious accommodation and a range of guest facilities as well as excellent game viewing opportunities.

With just 8 guest suites the lodge has an intimate atmosphere. Each suite has a lounge which opens out onto a private deck with views over the Marico River. The glass walls make the most of the magnificent views. The bathrooms are spacious and have both indoor and outdoor showers as well as a bathtub. Other facilities include telephone, tea & coffee making equipment, a bar fridge, bathrobes and a range of toiletries.

The main lodge holds the lounge and dining room, both of which open out onto the large deck area, which overlooks a waterhole. The bar is situated on the deck and is a great place to unwind after a day's game viewing. The upper viewing deck also offers great views over the surrounding area. The lodge also houses a curio shop and a library. Addtitional facilities include a boma, perfect for outdoor eating around the camp fire, an isolated viewing deck on the edge of the plains, several rustic game vewing hides and a heated swimming pool. There is a separate gym and spa, offering massage and aromatherapy. There is also an overnight hide for those guests who want to sleep out under the stars. Cuisine is based on a blend of European and African influences and is complemented by a selection of high quality wines.

There are morning and afternoon game drives in open 4x4 vehicles. The lodge also offers night game drives. There are also daily guided game walks. This area has a rich variety of game and in addition to The Big 5 guests may see cheetah, wild dog, hyena, giraffe, zebra and several species of antelope. This is also good bird watching country with over 340 species.

Pricing guidelines for South Africa

  • Open Panel

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). South Africa combines well with Botswana, Mauritius and Mozambique.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:

  £50 to £100

  £100 to £200
