About Kariega River Lodge

  • Close Panel

River lodge is set on the banks of the Bushman's River in the heart of the Kariega Game Reserve. The reserve is bordered in the east and west by the picturesque Kariega and Bushman's Rivers, and boasts spectacular and dramatic views and vistas with an abundence of African game and wildlife in its natural habitat. The Kariega Game Reserve is a 9,000 hectare private, family owned and managed, malaria-free reserve and a great game-viewing location.

Daily game drives in open vehicles with qualified game rangers offer the chance to see the Big 5 plus a range of other wildlife and a wide variety of fauna, flora and birdlife in a landscape that incorporates two majestic river valleys and five different eco-systems.

River Lodge is made up of 10 spacious thatched suites with high ceilings and large picture windows. The suites are located along the banks of the Bushman's River giving guests a true feeling of peace and tranquility in the African bush. Each room has en-suite bathroom facilities with an indoor shower and an ornate bath, air-conditioning and a private patio.

On a typical day, guests will have an early morning game drive, then enjoy a large breakfast back at the lodge after which they can choose from a variety of activities or simply find a quiet spot in one of the lounges, page through a book in the library, relax by the pool on the large viewing deck overlooking the river. Lunch and a siesta follow. In the late afternoon there is another game drive culminating in sundowners out on the reserve. On returning to the lodge, guests have time to wash and change for dinner, which will be served either in the restaurant or in the boma area around the camp fire.

River Lodge also hosts a variety of activities. As well as the morning and afternoon game drives, there are safari walks, boat cruises to Kenton-on-Sea beaches, canoeing, river fishing and crabbing to choose from. Guests at River Lodge can also enjoy massages and treatments from the staff at Kariega Health Spa in the privacy of their own suite.

Pricing guidelines for South Africa

  • Open Panel

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). South Africa combines well with Botswana, Mauritius and Mozambique.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:
£

  £50 to £100

A lovely camp located on the banks of the Bushmans River in a stunning location. This is a well presented camp with a varied array of activities to suit everyone. There is no communal eating but you do eat with your ranger which is nice! Kariega River Lodge is fab! Great guiding, lovely staff, tasty food. We really enjoyed our stay here.
