Giants Castle Camp

Giants Castle Game Reserve in the central region of the uKhahlamba - Drakensberg Park is a recently proclaimed world heritage site.

The most popular activities are hiking, climbing, trout fishing, picnics and swimming.  Overnight hiking trails and day walks are popular and the area has outstanding scenery.

Giants Castle takes its name from the massive ramparts of rock rising above the lodge.  The silhouette of the peaks and escarpment against the sky resemble the profile of a sleeping giant.  There is a unique vulture hide which gets visitors close to the Bearded Vultures and other endangered species which feed there in the winter (May - September).  There are fantastic rock art examples in the caves which give an insight to the life of locally extinct San people. There are 15km of trout waters and birders can look for 170 bird species.

The Giants Castle Camp has 43 assorted chalets, all large and en-suite with their own lounge/dining area and equipped kitchen for self catering,  they are large thatched chalets most with lovely views.  There is a restaurant on site and bar with a relaxed atmosphere which is very welcoming on cold winter nights.

Most people self drive here, but if you want to book guided activities the lodge does offer guided drives and walks.  There are self guided trails, astronomy and stargazing, san rock art, vulture hide and caves to explore from here.
