About Fugitives' Drift Lodge

  • Close Panel

Fugitives' Drift Lodge, near Rorke's Drift, is set on a hillside above the Buffalo River Gorge. Guests enjoy superb meals in the splendid atmosphere of a veritable museum of Zulu War memorabilia. Accommodation in the lodge is in 8 spacious, luxury en-suite rooms. Each has a private verandah affording views of the reserve and surrounding battlefields. There is also a separate guest house with 6 large en-suite rooms, all with private verandas. The guest house has its own small swimming pool.

The Lodge has a beautiful, shady well established garden, home to innumerable birds, and a large swimming pool situated on a secluded spur on the lip of the Buffalo River Gorge. Guests can enjoy sundowners around a fire under a canopy of paperbarks, with magical Isandlwana looming on the skyline. The cuisine is a fusion of home and modern flavours.

Guests here can take guided tours of the battlefields of Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift. The Lodge also offers walks of various durations with Zulu guides for the longer walks, fishing and horse riding.

Pricing guidelines for South Africa

  • Open Panel

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). South Africa combines well with Botswana, Mauritius and Mozambique.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:

  £50 to £100
