Artists Paradise is situated in the green valley of the Kabeljous river. This is a working farm which has meat cows and milking cows, chickens and grows its own vegetables. Vineyards were planted in 2004 so they hope to harvest the first grapes in a few years!
On the upper hill there are wild mammals including bushbuck, duiker and grey buck. This is an area of bio-diversity containing original rhinosterveld and fynbos so attracts a huge variety of bird species.
Beside the guesthouse and farm there is an art centre. There is a permanent art exhibition and art classes are given in the studio next to the guesthouse.
The guesthouse has 6 en-suite rooms with coffee/tea facilities, safe, fan, heater and electric blankets, several lounges (tv room, dining room, big lounge, library, vestibule). The swimming pool faces the green valley of the Kabeljous river and has a thatch-roofed sitting area next to it. Full breakfasts are included with home made bread rolls and picnics and suppers can be provided on request.
Your host - Adelheid Peltenburg - speaks English, Dutch, German and French. As an official Eastern & Western Cape tour guide she can inform you about all the activities in these areas. Guests are free to have a walk on the farm or to the waterfall nearby.
Jeffreys Bay, only a 5 minute drive away, is famous for its beaches, surfing and sandboarding. Dolphins are frequently seen and in winter whales can be found near the bay. Nearby there are several private game reserves, horse riding facilities and free-accessible nature reserves.
