About Arathusa Safari Lodge

  • Close Panel

Arathusa Safari Lodge is an owner-operated lodge occupying some 868 hectares in the northern sector of Sabi Sands Game Reserve in Kruger National Park. The Manyeleti River runs through the property. There is a great concentration of wildlife and game drives take place across 4,000 hectares of land due to reciprocal agreements with neighbouring landowners. Arathusa offers a traditional safari experience and over 90% of Arathusa's guests see the Big 5.

The lodge has standard and luxury suites, though all accommodation can be termed luxury. All rooms have ensuite bathrooms, indoor and outdoor showers, verandahs, air conditioning and telephones. Rooms are decorated in warm, natural tones and are simply but elegantly furnished. The 4 luxury suites are located a little further from the main camp and also have private plunge pool and separate lounge area. There are no televisions in the rooms - the emphasis is on the location, the fabulous views and wildlife.

The main camp has a large living area with views of the large waterhole and attendant game. The main materials used for rhe buildings are wood and thatch, which blend into the environment. There is an infinity pool, also overlooking the waterhole and a traditonal open air boma with a camp fire, often used for al fresco dinners. Food is a highlight at Arathusa, whether it be the plentiful buffet breakfast or cooked breakfast if preferred, delicious lunch or 3-course dinner. The chef uses locally sourced fruit, vegetable, meat and poultry to produce mouth-watering dishes. These are complemented by a fine selection of South African wines.

The landscape is rich and varied including open savannahs, riverine forest and lush vegetation. Wildlife abounds and there are between 5 and 20 resident hippos, lion, herds of buffalo and elephants all to be seen near the lodge. This is also a great place for seeing leopard. Other species seen include giraffe, zebra, cheetah, implala and warthog. It is also a very good area for bird watching. The rangers and trackers at Arathusa are knowledgeable, enthusiastic and friendly and ensure that the guests enjoy the best safari experience.

Pricing guidelines for South Africa

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). South Africa combines well with Botswana, Mauritius and Mozambique.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:

Overlooking a beautiful, large waterhole, we found Arathusa to be a clean and well maintianed camp. If the suites overlooked the waterhole like the standard rooms do, it would be fantastic, but unfortunately they look into the bush. All rooms have both indoor and outdoor shower and the suites are set slightly away from camp so ideal for honeymooners but don't book these if you have mobility issues.
