About Mountain Gorillas Nest

  • Close Panel

A comfortable and friendly lodge, ideally located for trekking the gorillas.

Mountain Gorillas Nest is located 2 kms west of the Kinigi Park Headquarters. The lodge is in a lovely rural setting and ideally situated to the park headquarters for the gorilla treks and registration. Each room is built alongside the gardens amongst tall trees and some with views over the golf course at the back. The rooms all look outwards into the Eucalyptus forest, pyrethrum farms and shambas (farms) beyond.

The Lodge is well constructed, but basic with grass covered roofs in traditional Rwandese style. There is a golf course in the grounds and a club house where drinks and snacks are served.

Note: This hotel is being rebuilt and rebranded in 2011 - details to follow. As of December 2010, some rooms are not in use and the main lounge and bar area will be closing, during the time of re-building, the 'back' section of rooms will remain open and the golf club facilities will be used for dining.

Pricing guidelines for Rwanda

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Rwanda combines well with Uganda or the East African coast. Please note that gorillas permits add on US$500 per visit, rising to US$750 for permits sold after 1st June 2012 for 2012 treks and for all 2013 treks. We charge these to you at the time of booking.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:

It is difficult to comment on this hotel as half of it is now closed and it has been taken over by the Mantis Collection who will be re-furbishing it in the 2011 season.  It's in a good location for gorilla trekking but the present setting is very dated and dark.  I look forward to hearing of the progress in developing this accommodation.
