Itinerary

Duration: 5 days

  1. Day 1: Arrive in Kigali, Rwanda’s capital city.
  2. Day 2: This morning we’ll take you on a Kigali city tour. After lunch, we set off by road to Ruhengeri in the foothills of the Virungas. Settle in to the Mountain Gorilla View Lodge.
  3. Day 3: After an early breakfast we’ll drive to Volcanoes NP for your golden monkeys tracking expedition. Th is rare primate species is on the IUCN Red List for critically endangered species. As and when you find the monkeys you will have an hour to spend with a habituated family. In the afternoon you take a fascinating tour to an ex-poachers’ village.
  4. Day 4: The big day! A very early start and you’re back in the national park, this time to trek to see the endangered and charismatic mountain gorilla. Your magical hour with these incredible primates will definitely be a highlight of any wildlife experience you’ve ever had. Watch them play, sleep, feed and generally interact naturally with each other - usually completely ignoring your presence! In the afternoon, sightseeing around the beautiful Twin Lakes.
  5. Day 5: Drive back to Kigali for your flight home.

Pricing guidelines for Rwanda

  • Open Panel

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Rwanda combines well with Uganda or the East African coast. Please note that gorillas permits add on US$500 per visit, rising to US$750 for permits sold after 1st June 2012 for 2012 treks and for all 2013 treks. We charge these to you at the time of booking.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:
