Lake Kivu Serena Hotel is situated on a sandy beach on the banks of Lake Kivu in the resort town of Gisenyi, aganist the backdrop of the Virunga Volcanoes.

The hotel has 66 bedrooms, in a variety of standards, all with air conditioning and satellite TV.

The restaurant offers excellent views out over the lake from the first floor with an outdoor terrace, while the bar has a lounge and outside area by the pool. Guests can enjoy the facilities which include a large outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts and a well equipped gym.

The hotel also offers boat trips and water sports on the lake. From here guests can take walks to explore the town and also local fishing communities based around the lake. The town of Gisenyi is really interesting and we recommend taking time to wander around and take a guided tour.

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Rwanda combines well with Uganda or the East African coast. Please note that gorillas permits add on US$500 per visit. We charge these to you at the time of booking.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:

This hotel was pleasingly much more modern and clean than I had been expecting! However, the buffet style dinner was awful and inedible and the food and drink prices are horrendous. the breakfast buffet was a huge improvement on the night before! The beach is lovely and quiet and the views across the water are stunning. The hotel has lush gardens with a good number of colourful birds. It is a large hotel so it can be busy and service is not the quickest in Africa. I would suggest booking a room on the other side of the building to the pool as the noise from the bar at night tends to echo around the adjacent rooms.
