One of the oldest hotels in Kigali, and the place where the film 'Hotel Rwanda' was based on, this is an African style large, luxurious hotel in a central city location.

The rooms are well equipped with large beds, tv, wifi and air conditioning, all rooms have been completely refurbished as of November 2010.

There is a large swimming pool and tables and chairs for relaxing in the gardens. Food can be ordered at the pool bar or the top floor Panorama Restaurant. There are great views across the hills of the city and good shops nearby.

Pricing guidelines for Rwanda

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Rwanda combines well with Uganda or the East African coast. Please note that gorillas permits add on US$500 per visit, rising to US$750 for permits sold after 1st June 2012 for 2012 treks and for all 2013 treks. We charge these to you at the time of booking.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:

This hotel felt a bit dated but that's only because it retains it's original exterior and basic 70's style decor.  The staff were friendly and welcoming, the rooms large and comfortable and although the outside is a bit bland the interior is modern enough.  Unfortunately, we arrived late and tired and tried to get food at the pool bar, the 'sandwich' was inedible and the price of food and drink (like most places in Rwanda) was very high.  The Panorama Restaurant served a superb breakfast buffet and the views across the hills of the city from here is fantastic.  The hotel is in a good location with airline offices and money changing facilties and a supermarket just round the corner if you need supplies.

Julie Croucher, Africa Sales Manager, stayed here December 2010.
