About Cormoran Lodge

  • Close Panel

A gorgeous rustic log cabin style lodge in a shelterd bay on Lake Kivu, near Kibuye. Accessed by boat or from a dirt road off of the Kibuye main road, Cormoran Lodge sits in the curve of a sheltered bay, surrounded by hills and islands looking out over the beautiful lake.

There is a huge dining area and bar with a long terrace on the front looking over the lake and down below on the terraced gardens there is a small beach area and jetty where you can relax and swim.

At present there are 6 rooms in a variety of double, twin or a VIP cabin. All rooms are large and basically furnished but comfortable, with mosquito nets, fridges, safes, TV and bathrooms with both shower and bath tub.

There is a games room with billiards, darts and board games and water sports such as canoeing, boat rides and water skiing can be booked at extra charge.

If you are interested in the history and culture of Rwanda, Kibuye is an interesting town to have a wander round and there are a few genocide memorials in the area too. There are some cafes and bars in town and it's nice to meet the local people and enjoy the beauty of the lake.

If you want to visit the source of the nile which is located in the northern section of Nyungwe Forest, the turn off road is nearer Kibuye than Nyungwe, so this is a good place to overnight.

Pricing guidelines for Rwanda

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Rwanda combines well with Uganda or the East African coast. Please note that gorillas permits add on US$500 per visit, rising to US$750 for permits sold after 1st June 2012 for 2012 treks and for all 2013 treks. We charge these to you at the time of booking.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:

  £50 to £100

  £100 to £200

I visited here whilst in Kibuye and really loved it.  It's not long opened so still feels very new, but there is a lovely atmosphere in the bar and there are decks on all the rooms and the bar with extensive views over the lake.  I'd love to spend a few nights here to have time to enjoy it. Kibuye town has a nice feel to it and if you are interested in the history and culture of Rwanda, spend a few days here.
