Qenko lies about 4 miles from Cusco and is an interesting site with a rather macabre history. It is believed that this was the site of an annual pre-planting ceremony in which the priest poured chicha, or llama blood, into a special pipe which then flowed into the zigzag channels carved into the rockface. Depending on the direction of the flow, the harvest in the year to come was reckoned to be either plentiful or poor. There is also a cave here with altars carved from the rock.
