About Posada Amazonas

  • Close Panel

Posada Amazonas is a 30 bedroom lodge located in the territory of the Ese'eja Native Community of Infierno, directly adjacent to the 1.9 million acre Tambopata National Reserve in south-eastern Amazonian Peru. The lodge is owned jointly by the Ese'eja community and a Peruvian ecotourism company. Thanks to its accessibility, excellent wildlife observation opportunities and rustic but comfortable accommodations, Posada Amazonas is the ideal short introductory nature tour to Amazonia´s richest rain forests

The lodge was built combining traditional native architecture and materials (wood, palm fronds, wild cane and clay) with modern, low-impact, eco-lodge technology. It consists of a complex of ten sections: rooms, dining area and kitchen, relaxation area and service facilities.

The rooms complex consists of five structures with six rooms per unit arranged in doubles, triples and cuadruples. Visitors are in permanent contact with the forest, even in the rooms: the wall looking into the forest is an unscreened waist-high veranda! Bedrooms are equipped with mosquito nets, bedside tables and hammocks or lounge chairs. Bathrooms are private with showers and flush toilets, but cold water only.

The ample bar and dining room seats up to 80 people. Buffet meals combine international, Peruvian and local cuisine. Vegetarians are welcome. The lodge is illuminated by windlamps and candlelight and there is a generator for recharging batteries.

The close proximity of Posada Amazonas to the Tambopata National Reserve provides access to some of the Amazon's most biologically diverse rainforest. The Bahuaja-Sonene National Park and the adjacent Tambopata National Reserve protect habitats ranging from the Andean highlands around the rivers' headwaters through some of the last remaining intact cloud forests to the lowland rainforests of the Amazon basin. Over 1,300 bird species (including 32 parrot species - 10% of the world's total), 200 mammal species, 90 frog species, 1,200 butterfly species and 10,000 species of higher plants are protected within this reserve.

During a stay at Posada Amazonas there are a mix of activities available including rainforest hikes, ethnobotanical walks, night walks and talks, and a farm visit. Canopy access is easy with a 35 metre scaffolding tower just a 20-minute walk from the lodge with hopeful view of toucans, parrots, macaws and mixed species flocks. A family of 9 Giant Otters can often be seen on a nearby oxbow lake, as well as other lakeside wildlife such as caiman, Hoatzin and Horned Screamers. There is also a parrot clay lick just a 20-minute walk from the lodge. From a hide about 20-metres from the clay lick it is possible to see dozens of parrots and parakeets descend on most clear mornings to ingest the clay. Species such as Mealy, Yellow-headed and Blue-headed Parrots, and Dusky-headed Parakeets can usually be seen.

Posada Amazonas is a fabulous rainforest experience.

Pricing guidelines for Peru holidays

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £750 to £1000 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Peru combines very well with Ecuador (including the Galapagos Island), but can also be linked with Brazil.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:
£

  under £60

  £60 to £100
