Indigenous cultures

  1. Aymara

Aymara is spoken by approximately 1.6 million people living on and beside Lake Titicaca and in the surrounding area.

  2. Ese'Eja

The Ese’eja live in the Tambopata region of south east Peru and Madidi, Bolivia. 60 years ago there were around 15,000 Ese’eja in Tambopata, but today there are just a few hundred, as diseases introduced by foreigners and the decimation of the rubber boom have taken a heavy toll. The largest Ese’eja population is found in Bolivia.

  3. Quechua

Those who speak Quechua as their first language are called Quechua Indians. They share, between them, approximately forty-six languages within the Quechua language group and, numbering over twelve million, form the largest population of Indian people in the Americas.
