You begin your Peru travel with a visit to the Amazon and the Tambopata National Reserve. Over 1300 bird species (including 32 parrot species - 10% of the world's total), 200 mammal species, 90 frog species, 1200 butterfly species and 10000 species of higher plants are protected within this reserve and the adjacent Bahuaja-Sonene National Park.
Our Peru travel continues as we fly to Cusco, set in high Andean mountains at 3320m. Built on the foundations of an Inca city, you can still see intricate Inca masonry and buildings as you walk through the town. Part of the Urubamba Valley, close to Cusco, was known as the Sacred Valley to the Incas due to its beauty and great fertility. Today the valley not only has a number of important Inca sites like the fortress at Ollantaytambo, but also has some of the best village markets where you can get a glimpse of what life is like nowadays for the Andean villagers.
Having explored Cusco and Sacred Valley, it is time to visit Machu Picchu, the famous lost city of the Incas, and one of the most magical and mysterious places on earth.
Our last few day of our Peru travel begin with a train journey through the Andes brings to Lake Titicaca. Here you will head out from Puno and visit the floating reed islands of Uros, stay as guests of a local family on Amantani Island and expore Taquile, a very traditional island known for its weaving and knitted products, before heading back to Puno, ready for your flight to Lima and home, the end of your Peru travel.
