These are 4 luxury lodges along the Salcantay Route to Machu Picchu used in our Luxury Lodge Trek. Enjoy the breathtaking scenery without sacrificing creature comforts. The lodges offer warmth and comfort after the day's exertions in beautiful, remote locations.

The lodges have been designed and built in accordance with traditional building techniques and local architecture and with respect for the environment. Salcantay Lodge has 12 rooms, all with ensuite shower rooms, while the other 3 lodges - Wayra, Colpa and Lucma - each has 6 ensuite rooms. All lodges provide ample hot water. Shower gel, shampoo and conditioned are available. The lodges are heated to a comfortable 23 degrees centigrade. Each lodhe has an outdoor jacuzzi, ideal for soothing tired limbs after they day's trekking. Meals, based on delicious local cuisine, including the innovative 'Andean Energetic Cuisine', created by the MLP's food and beverage director, and drinks are served to fit in with the trekking itinerary.

The lodges are located at strategic points along the route. Salcantay is a Soraypampa and the others at Huayraccmachay, Colpapampa and Lucmabamba, where guests spend one night each. All enjoy wonderful settings in the Cordillera Vicabamba, the Andean mountain range which includes Machu Picchu. All are well away from the camp sites of the Inca Trail, so guests can relish the spectacular scenery in peace and tranquility.

For guests' convenience, all lodges have a satellite 'phone for which cards can be bought. Internet access is also provided.

Mountain Lodges of Peru's committment to sustainable tourism was recognised recently, achieving Highly Commended status in the 'Best in a Mountain Environment' category at the 2011 Virgin Holidays Responsible Tourism Awards.

Pricing guidelines for Peru holidays

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £750 to £1000 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Peru combines very well with Ecuador (including the Galapagos Island), but can also be linked with Brazil.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:

  under £60
