Nepal Wildlife Tour

A two week trip exploring the rich wildlife of the lowlands of Nepal. Fly from Kathmandu to Nepalunj and drive almost the length of the country from Badia National Park in the West to Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve in the East before flying back to Kathmandu.

This trip gives you the chance to explore the diverse variety of wildlife that can be found in the lowlands of Nepal. The Bengal Tiger is the most famous inhabitant of this region, and an elephant-back safari in Badia and Chitwan National Parks gives you the best opportunity to spot this magnificent creature, but there is much more to be seen, including deer, leopards, Langur Monkeys and even the rare Gangetic Dolphin. There is also a rich variety of birdlife, especially in the wetlands of Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve where it is possible to see more than 100 species in a day.

There is also the opportunity to visit the remote villages and learn about the many different cultures of the terai, as well as exploring the many temples and palaces in and around Khatmandu.

Itinerary

Day 1:

Arrive in Kathmandu and transfer to your hotel.

Day 2:

A guided tour of Kathmandu including a tour of adjacent Patan will be arranged for today.

Day 3:

Transfer to the airport for the morning flight to Nepalgunj and transfer by car to Bardia National Park.

Day 4:

A full day of activities in Bardia National Park, including elephant-back safaris, jeep safari, jungle treks and birdwatching expeditions.

Day 5:

A second full day of activities in Badia National Park.

Day 6:

It is a long but scenic drive across the terai through numerous small Nepalese communities to Chitwan National Park.

Day 7:

A full day of activities in Chitwan National Park, including Elephant and jeep safaris, canoeing, nature walks and village tours. The elephants used for the safaris are based at the lodge, and you can help bathe them.

Day 8:

A second full day of activities in Chitwan National Park.

Day 9:

Continue driving through the terai to arrive in Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve by the early afternoon.

Day 10:

A full day of activities in Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve with the chance to explore the birdlife on foot and by raft. If you are lucky, you may see the rare Gangetic River Dolphin in the wetlands.

Day 11:

A second full day of activities in Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve.

Day 12:

Transfer to Brantnagar airport for the short flight back to Kathmandu, with the afternoon free to explore or shop.

Day 13:

A full day tour of the medieval city of Bhaktapur and nearby villages and temples will be arranged for today.

Day 14:

Transfer to the airport for your flight home.

Price

This is an easy tour.

Best times to go

October to April. The terai remains warm throughout the winter, and starts to heat up from March onwards as the monsoon approaches.

Getting there

International flights return from London to Kathmandu start from £650 per person, although flights in October and November can be much more expensive.
