Vilanculos Beach Lodge is situated in the small costal town of Vilanculos, in the subtropical province of Inhambane, Mozambique. Vilanculos lies 720kms north of Maputo and 500kms south of Beira. This is a great place from which to explore the picturesque Bazaruto Archipelago and the Bazaruto National Park.
The lodge was re-built after the devastation of cyclone Favio in 2007. It is makde from natural indigenous materials of thatch and local hardwood sambiri poles which have been combined with plaster walls and wood frame doors and windows. The property extends right on to the beach and the lodge buildings are set back about 100m up the ridge, overlooking the sea. The Main building houses the lounge, reception, main bar, restaurant and kitchen. Relaxing areas lead through to the garden and onto the beach. In the event of inclement weather, awnings are available to offer protection, without blocking the magnificent views. The large comfortable couches in the lounge provide the perfect place to relax indoors and the main bar is equally well-positioned overlooking the lush gardens, palm trees and pool in the distance.
There is a lovely large infinity pool which also is deep enough for scuba training. There is bar at the pool overlooking the gardens and beach. The beach entry accommodates wheel chair access, and is perfect for children, elderly or disabled patrons. There is indoor and outdoor dining with a mix of western and Mozambique style food and a pizza oven! Seafood of course is served in abundance here.
The standard rooms are all 'luxury chalets' and all face the beach with plants providing privacy around the garden. They are all high roofed thatch structures to allow breezes. All units are fitted with separate air conditioning, mosquito nets, hairdryers, shaver plug points, electronic safes, fridges and coffee and tea stations. There is a presidential suite and villa, both of which accomodate families or groups of friends.
