May 2009: From the 1st of May, the island will be closed for an extensive refurbishment. Once it reopens (possibly August) it will be sold on an exclusive-use basis only. Details will then be updated.
Quilalea is an idyllic Mozambique island resort located in the Quirimbas Archipelago in the tropical Indian Ocean. Completely uninhabited, this Indian Ocean island offers complete exclusivity and unparalleled natural beauty. Nine private villas all offer magnificent sea views, providing a malaria-free haven of luxury island accommodation. Each spacious villa is built of local materials and has a private veranda with panoramic sea views. All have ensuite bathrooms. Large windows offer stunning views and allow the sea breeze to waft through the entire villa. The natural rock walls, makuti thatch, and colonial ceiling fans keep the villas cool by day.
The restaurant and lounge is no more than a 2-minute walk from the most distant villa. Set on a peninsula at the north end of the island, the restaurant offers beautiful ocean views to both the west and the east. Guests can enjoy the local Mozambican cuisine influenced by Portugal and Goa, prepared by the gourmet chef. Meals can also be arranged on the beach for a special occasion.
Guests can relax by the swimming pool or on the sandy beaches. Alternatively they can choose from the various adventure activities on offer including diving, snorkelling, fishing, canoeing, bird watching and exploring the island. Dhow sailing cruises are also offered to guests.
