About Lugenda Wilderness Camp

  • Close Panel

Lugenda Wilderness Camp is in the unspoilt Niassa Game Reserve in northern Mozambique. At 42,000 square kilometres, this reserve is the largest in Mozambique and is twice the size of Kruger National Park.

The camp consists of just 8 East African style tents accommodating a maximum of 16 guests. The tents are spacious and well furnished on raised decks, with king size beds and ensuite bathrooms, with bath, shower and double hand basins. The tents also have ceiling fans and a large outdoor deck. The main guest area is built of timber and thatch, offering welcome shade from the heat of the sun. Meals are taken here, leisurely affairs with guests enjoying views of the Lugenda River.

The food here is fresh and delicious. Hot tea and coffee and muffins are served before early morning game drives and walks, followed by breakfast and lunch. High tea is taken before the afternoon game activity and in the evening guests enjoy sundowners before dinner. The camp has a selection of fine wines to complement the meals.

Activities focus on the plentiful game of the Niassa Reserve, including endemic species Niassa Wildebeest, Boehm's Zebra and Johnston's Impala, plus elephants, antelope, buffalo, hartebeest and predators including lion, leopard and hyena. Wild dogs are also seen in this area. The camp offers morning and afternoon game drives in open safari vehicles and guided walks for those wishing to explore in more detail. This is a true wilderness area and the guides are happy to share their experience and expertise. Guests may also spend time at the camp, browsing the selection of books, cooling off in the swimming pool or relaxing on their private deck.

Pricing guidelines for Mozambique

  • Open Panel

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £700 to £900 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Return flights from Joburg to Pemba (in northern Mozambique) will add on roughly £400. Mozambique combines well with South Africa, Malawi and southern Tanzania.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:
