About Barra Lodge

  • Close Panel

Barra Lodge is a perfect retreat on Mozambique's Southern coast near Inhambane, offering safe diving and bathing conditions all year round.

Accommodation is a range of casitas and self catering cottages all set amidst groves of coconut trees, with a couple of bunk houses for budget-conscious travellers. The casitas are built of thatch, brick and reeds and have ensuite shower rooms. All have views of the beach and sea beyond. The self catering cottages consist of 2 bedrooms, ensuite shower room, lounge/dining area and fully equipped kitchen.

The lodge has a restaurant with plenty of fresh seafood including prawns and calamari. The popular beach bar is open for lunches and snacks and is also a great place to enjoy a sundowner and chat to fellow guests. There is a swimming pool and pool side bar too.

This coast is known for its beautiful coral reefs and abundant sea life and Barra Lodge has its own dive centre and staff of divemasters who can help guests make the most of their time here. Manta rays, whale sharks and humpback whales are often seen, while smaller creatures such as harlequin shrimps, frogfish and sea horses are also plentiful. Snorkelling is another popular pasttime. The lodge also arranges ocean safari trips, 2 hour journeys to spot dolphins, whales, turtles and other marine life. Guests can also explore the nearby mangrove swamps by boat or on foot. The lodge can organise cruises on traditional dhows, a relaxing way for visitors to view this lovely area. Visits to Inhambane city with its cathedrals and Portuguese colonial architecture can also be arranged. Quad biking and horse riding are other additional activities.

Pricing guidelines for Mozambique

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £700 to £900 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Return flights from Joburg to Pemba (in northern Mozambique) will add on roughly £400. Mozambique combines well with South Africa, Malawi and southern Tanzania.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:
