About La Pause

  • Close Panel

La Pause is a a place to escape to. It's hard to describe exactly what this is. It's not a lodge, it's more of a camp, yet 'camp' suggests tents whereas the rooms here are not tents.

Whatever you decide to classify it as, it's a place owned and run by a very nice French man called Frederic. He found this area whilst out here horse riding one day, and fell in love with it. Here bought the lease and slowly built up La Pause.

It is also difficult to tell you how many people La Pause caters for! With as few as 5 people it could be classed as 'full', but then it can also accommodate up to 26 people. Why? Because Frederic has made 5 'zones' of accommodation. Once someone has taken one zone (be it one person or 4 people in a zone with two twin bedroms for example), Frederic will not sell the rest of those places to anyone else. This ensures privacy for each family or couple or party. Nice idea!

The rooms are varied - from a 'normal' twin room to a double room which only has 3 walls (the third being a huge curtain). But they have in common a comfortable bed and cosy linen, and en-suite bathroom with shower and flush loo, a sitting area inside and out, bowls of flowers ... and no electricity.

Why come here? Well, to get away from everyday life. It's simple here, so it's relaxing. You can take lovely walks in the river bed, you can go and walk to the nearby village and school, or horse ride or camel ride, or even play golf (with a donkey for a caddie!). It's also a great place for an event - be it a wedding or a big party.

At night the whole place is lit with candles and each couple of party has their own area in the main dining region where they area brought gorgeous meals.

Relax, pause, enjoy!

Pricing guidelines for Morocco

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £200 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). We offer flights with Royal Air Maroc which has daily flights to Marrakech as well as good connections to other cities.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:

I really liked this place. It's only 45 mins from Marrakech, and whilst it’s not actually in the sandy desert (most people's view of a desert), it has the feeling of being in an oasis in the middle of the desert, as this is a hilly, rocky desert area called Agafay.
Frederic, the French owner, obviously loves this place and his passion shows. He’s made a real ‘escape’ where you can either chill and do very little or try a variety of activities such as horse riding or even golf. - with a donkey for a caddie.
It’s not luxury, and it has no electricity, but it’s rustically charming and very atmospheric.
I’d happily spend a couple of nights here to enjoy that feeling of being away from everything.
At night the whole place is lit by hundreds of candles, and of course by the starlit night sky too!

Amanda Marks, Tribes director, stayed 1 night here in Nov 2010.
