Dar L'Oussia is an attractive hotel set in the medina of Essaouira, near the port, beach and kasbah. Entering through the blue doorway, you walk into the large central courtyard, adorned with potted palms and cushion-strewn comfy chairs. The guest rooms are located around the courtyard on different floors. There are 20 rooms and 4 suites, all spacious and simply yet elegantly furnished in individual colours, some with 4-poster beds. All have either an ensuite shower or bath and are fitted out in cooling marble. Each room is air conditioned and has satellite TV.
The roof terrace is large and has superb views over the town, port and beach. This is an excellent place to relax, high above the sounds of the city. There are tables and chairs beneath canopies providing shade from the heat of the sun. Breakfast is served here each morning and there are occasional fish grills in the afternoon. The hotel also has a restaurant, decorated in traditional Moroccan style, serving both local and international cuisine. There is a cosy bar in which to enjoy pre and post dinner drinks.
There is a hammam, free for all hotel guests to use, and massages can be arranged. Additional facilities include a library and extensive lounge areas, equipped with comfortable chairs and sofas. There is also a gift shop. The hotel has internet access.
Dar L'Oussia is perfectly positioned for exploring the walled city of Essaouira with its traditional, working fishing port and Portuguese architecture. The medina is UNESCO World Heritage site. The souks are relatively quiet and there are good deals to be had for those willing to bargain! Essaouira also has 10kms of sandy beach. As well as swimming, kitesurfing and windsurfing are popular.
